Free Jewish Children's Books Available

Jewish children in the greater Stamford community are eligible to receive a monthly gift of free, age-appropriate Jewish-content books through PJ Library, a program designed to strengthen the identities of Jewish families and their relationship to the Jewish community. PJ Library offers free, high quality books and music each month to more than 100,000 children in over 175 communities in the United States, Canada and Israel. Jewish Children in the Stamford, New Canaan, and Darien communities, who are ages six months through eight years old, can take advantage of this amazing opportunity.

Children receiving books must reside at the address where the books are mailed. Different books are mailed to different aged children, and books are mailed in the child's name. Learn more about PJ Library and enroll your children.

PJ Library in Stamford is a gift from the United Jewish Federation, Linda Spilka, and Ed Spilka. The national program is through the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, and is made possible through partnerships with philanthropists and local Jewish organizations. Today, families in hundreds of communities across the United States and Canada are able to explore the timeless core values of Judaism through books and music.

PJ Library of Greater Stamford has events happening all the time! These events happen throughout the area and are open to all PJ Library families and their friends. Most of the events are free. If you have any questions or would like to add to an event to the calendar, please email Sharon Franklin, PJ Library Coordinator, at Sharon@ujf.org

PJ Library FAQs

What does PJ stand for?

Pajamas! We know those special times of reading, dancing and singing together happen when your children are wearing their pajamas.

Who is eligible to register?

Those who fit all of the following three criteria:

• A family with children from 6 months to 8 years old

• Has one Jewish parent in the household

• Currently resides in Stamford, New Canaan, or Darien.

What’s the cost?

The PJ Library® is free due to our generous local donors: Linda Spilka, Ed Spilka, and The Harold Grinspoon Foundation.

What if I have grandchildren who live outside of the Greater Stamford area?

• To find out if their community is offering The PJ Library, go to www.PJLIbrary.org. If they are, you can sign them up on the national website.

• If your relative’s community is not currently a PJ Library community, you can purchase a gift subscription for each child for just $60 annually.

What's the catch?

Only one — you need to read the books and listen to the music with your children. That's all!
